My life underwent significant changes after I had the incredible opportunity to meet the director of EL Shama Cares on Campus. His unwavering energy challenged me to strive for more than I ever thought possible, motivating me to actively pursue my goals. The director’s sincere interest in my growth—both personally and—along with his support in navigating financial challenges, has been instrumental in my journey. Today, I stand proudly as a graduate, grateful for the new direction that EL Shama Cares has provided.

During the pandemic, I found myself in a very dark place. The isolation, along with my ongoing struggles with mental health and addiction, became too much to bear. The uncertainty of it all was overwhelming, and at one point, I truly felt like giving up. The pain felt inescapable. But then, something changed. I crossed paths with the director of EL Shama Cares—a person who went above and beyond, dedicating more time and energy than I could have ever expected to help pull me out of the rut I was stuck in. Because of that support, today I’m in a completely different place. I’m holding a steady job, rebuilding my life, and finally thriving. I’m deeply grateful for the EL Shama Cares Foundation. They didn’t just help me survive—they helped me believe in a future worth fighting for.
